This is the first post I write, it’s meant as a mission statement more than anything and also to push myself forward toward the goals I want to achieve with this blog.
They are rather straightforward:
- I want to share the experience of working abroad. โ๏ธ I have acquired working in China as an English Second Language (ESL) teacher. It was a valuable experience and I wish to encourage anyone who would be interested but hesitant to go forward. I believe that travelling is one of the primordial ways to gain insights of the world that are hard to obtain otherwise.
- I want to share my experience as an ESL educator. ๐ฌ I worked with students of all ages and levels, from toddlers to adults. I have been able to apply and try various methods of teaching, sometimes imposed, more often self ascribed. I believe that this experience, me being a polyglot, paired with my studies in psychology (focused on language acquisition, developmental psychology and linguistics) allows me to offer solid informed opinions and insights into understanding how to teach a second language.
- I want to share my passion for education. ๐ Here it can be misleading to know what is meant when I use the word education. That tells me maybe I should probably write a post about that ยฏ\_(ใ)_/ยฏ but to make it short, I don’t mean knowledge, but rather tools that will allow the individual to deal with challenges, understand and be able to approach novelty without fear, or forge themselves a path of their own where they can advance themselves and those around them to improve themselves.
- I want to share tips and methods that have worked for me and my colleagues. ๐ฉโ๐ซ Wether it’s for a basic lesson or a day of observation, controlling your students’ behaviour or interesting them into the material you are trying to teach them, I have taught many classes and many levels over the years. I have a solid idea of essentials that a new teacher should have with them in order to tackle some of the most common situations that can happen in a work abroad teacher’s life.
I feel I have substantial wisdom to impart and I’m excited to have you aboard ๐
